Curious Fox Presents

March 4, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm

$30

WHY:

Introducing the inaugural Curious Fox Presents! Think TED conference with a foxy twist. This part-lecture part-social part-entertainment event brings together a growing community of Curious Foxes. The special speakers will cover a diverse range of topics related to relationships, communication, sex, sexuality, and personal development. Through the talks and engaged Q&A we will explore, laugh, and learn together.

What is a Curious Fox?

Curious: An engaged interest, a desire for discovery, a dedication to growth.

Fox: In Japanese culture foxes (kitsune) are believed to possess high intelligence, long life, and magical powers as well as being faithful guardians, friends, lovers, and partners.

Combined, Curious Foxes will approach new situations with an open mind, wisdom, and humility. They will explore together while challenging themselves to look within. Curious Foxes know how to ask questions with purpose while being able to listen fully and authentically to their answers. Curious Foxes stay curious.

WHAT:

1pm: Doors open. Come on in!

2pm: Myers Briggs, the Underrated Relationship Tool

Have you seen Myers Briggs personality types floating around? INTJ, ESFP, NSFW…There’s more value to them than you might believe. These types are nuanced, flexible, and powerful insights into how people prefer to take in stimuli and communicate – all based on Jungian functions. In this talk, Sara will give you some insider tips on how to figure out your type, what your type means, and – the best part – how to use this to improve your relationships. Ready to wow your partners and friends? Come learn the shocking truths about personality types!

There will be a Q&A and break before the next speaker.

3pm: “Why polyamory?” Panel

Mirroring the popular monthly event Curious Fox Social, relationship expert Effy Blue will facilitate an enlightening dialogue about relationship by design. She will help you dive into the world of ethical non-monogamy by sharing stories of experienced non-monogamists on a diverse panel and having an open Q&A. By sharing stories – authentic narratives that cover the good, bad, and the ugly – we get the most realistic insight into a lifestyle that is not widely understood.

After you’ve discovered alternative relationships are an option…. why choose it? This month we will be answering the question of “Why?” There are many reasons to choose it that may resonate with you or catch you by surprise.

There will be a break before the next speaker.

4pm: Tips from an Online Dating Consultant

The world of online dating can be a tough landscape even for seasoned daters. And add alternative relationship preferences to that can make things even harder! In this talk, online dating expert Steve Dean will guide you through choosing the right dating app for you, creating a compelling profile, and concocting fun, memorable dates. You’ll walk away with some expert tips!

There will be a Q&A and break before the next speaker.

5pm: Dinner break

It’s our treat. Sit back and chat with your fellow Foxes about personality types, relationship structures, and dating tips!

6pm: Keeping My Kidneys

Mindy Raf’s critically acclaimed new solo comedy show, Keeping My Kidneys weaves polished stand-up comedy into a fresh, tightly constructed, narrative around modern love and relationships. Bringing “humor and—most importantly —normality to parts of the human psychology and emotional life that are far too often romanticized”(Theatre Is Easy), Keeping My Kidneys dismantles the romantic comedy and the roles we play in it. After hearing Mindy’s story, you might even end up asking yourself, “could I ever do that?”

7pm: Social time! Eat some snacks, make some friends, and be merry!

8pm: Continue your conversations nearby. Thank you for coming and see you next time!

Sara Dahan would be described by others as a scientist, an educator, an activist, a writer, and a thinker. She would describe herself as a bona fide nerd. She has been mastering the MBTI framework for much longer than she’s been practicing polyamory and loves to type people after a conversation. When she’s not doing that, Sara dedicates herself to spreading awareness and education around alternative relationships. She accomplishes this alongside Effy Blue, together creating resources and events for the Curious Fox community and beyond. She contributes her background in public health, medicine, psychology, and neuroscience to add a fresh perspective to her work. That’s right, she majored in neuroscience and swears by personality tests. Sara lives in Brooklyn with her two cats.

Steve Dean is an NYC-based online dating consultant and digital matchmaker (Dateweorking.com).
